To
say that Marcia Basolo volunteers at U-High is an understatement.
She has been involved in so many activities as a Pioneer
parent that it’s hard to list them all without fear of missing
something. Marcia has
helped with the cheerleading program, cooked and sewed for the
theatre and madrigal programs, hung spirit signs on lockers, manned
concessions as a parent rep for volleyball, and organized many
sports banquets and receptions.
For the last six years she has been instrumental in
transforming Miller Park Pavilion into beautifully decorated Prom
settings. Two years ago
she revamped the décor for the Prom Grand March. She also donated a large block of personal time to chaperone
the choral trip to New York City. As
a part of U-High Boosters, Marcia helped develop the U-High clothing
line, which has been immensely popular as well as profitable.
A project in which Marcia takes great pride is spearheading
the Parent Support Network (PSN). She solicited and received a grant from the Heartland
Regional Partnership to fund the venture.
The mission of PSN is to educate and aid parents in the
monumental task of raising teenagers.
The PSN works with the U-High counseling team to provide
small group discussions for parents on topics such as teen drug and
alcohol abuse and prevention. Marcia
and her husband Fred reside in Bloomington; daughters Trisha and
Angela are U-High graduates, and Melissa is a U-High freshman. Marcia is employed by InfoTech at Illinois State University. |
