UNIVERSITY HIGH SCHOOL LETTER
REQUIREMENTS
1. Any senior who has participated for
four (4) years can qualify for a letter.
2. Athletes must finish the year in
good standing in the sport.
3.
Coach’s recommendation based on attitude,
attendance and general value to the success of the team.
4. Outstanding team
accomplishment/contribution.
5.
Freshman numerals are awarded for the successful
completion of the season.
BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL
80 points minimum needs:
30 points max for 25% game
participation*
25 points max for attitude of athlete
25 points max for attendance and
practice participation
25 points max for general value to the
success of the team
*Points for game participation are
computed as follows:
30 points max
x points
25% game participation or more
% of actual time played if less than 25% game
participation
Athlete must finish the year in good
standing in sport
GIRLS AND BOYS BASKETBALL
A varsity letter in girls and boys
basketball is awarded to those varsity athletes who
finish the season in good standing.
There are no “quarter” requirements
for a letter-winner, but they must have a coach’s
recommendation.
GIRLS AND BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
The top eight (8) runners for both the
boys and the girls teams shall qualify for a varsity
letter upon successful completion of the season.
Depending on the level of actual varsity
participation, the 9th and 10th
runners may also qualify for a varsity letter.
FOOTBALL
Athlete must meet at least one of the
letter requirements to receive a varsity letter:
1. Team contributor for the entire
season with no unexcused absences
2. Play in ¼ of all quarters
3. Dressed for at least 4 games
4. Injured athletes may still receive
a letter based on coach’s recommendation
GIRLS AND BOYS GOLF
A member of the varsity golf team
should participate in varsity golf matches and
tournaments
GIRLS AND BOYS SOCCER
1. Must play in 1/3 of all games , or
2.
1/3 of al playing time of games
GIRLS AND BOYS SWIMMING
Need 22 points to letter:
1 point for participating in a dual/tri meet
1 point for scoring in a dual/tri meet
2 points for participating in a championship meet
2 points for scoring in a championship meet
Being selected to the sectional/state
team
Coach’s recommendation
GIRLS AND BOYS TENNIS
1 point for playing in a match
1 point for a win in a match
Total of 12 dual matches = 12 points to letter
1 point for tournament (participant)
1 point for match
1 point for win
9 points for tournament = 4 points to letter
12 points combination of duals and
tournaments, or
Coach’s recommendation
GIRLS AND BOYS TRACK
All girls and boys who compete at
conference and sectional shall receive a varsity letter.
Any team member who does not qualify to compete
at conference or sectional gets a mark or time that
would place in the meet shall also be given letter
consideration.
VOLLEYBALL
1. Play in ¼ of matches
2. Outstanding team contributions /
accomplishments
WRESTLING
1 point per dual meet wrestled
2 points per tournament
2 points each level of state competition
21 duals & 4 tournaments & 6 state series = 35
possible points
24 points in any combination to letter
