Tailgating
It is a U-High tradition at the state meet to have a version of a tailgating party at the U-High 'camp' AFTER the AA races. This is a feast of finger foods - whatever you would like to bring to share with the team. Please remember, though, that we are all there to help the team do their best in this highlight race of their season. Coach Hampton totally approves of the party, but only when both races are complete. The most important thing is to help the team focus on the race, and to have our fans spread out on the course cheering them on.

Directions
Take I-74 West to Peoria.
Take Exit 93 (Adams St./IL-29) toward Jefferson Avenue / Downtown Peoria / Greater Peoria Regional Airport. Turn RIGHT onto US-24 E / NE Adams St. / IL-29 N.
Proceed about 8 miles on IL-29 N.

Parking: Options are more restricted for this meet. You can park at the soccer fields on the left as you approach Detweiller, or you can proceed on Rt. 29 to the entrance of Detweiller Park on the left. Note that only school and officials vehicles will be allowed past the parking area. There is a fee for parking per vehicle: $10 per car, $15 per extended van, $25 per bus. Number of passengers doesn't matter. Carpooling is encouraged.

Tent location: The team will NOT be in its usual location. Look for the Pioneer tent near the finish line just across the park road, next to the hillside (near the port-a-potties).

Decorating vehicles: Some folks like to show their support by decorating their vehicles for the occasion. Evidently you can buy the appropriate marking paint at Wal-Mart.

Pets: DON'T BRING 'EM! (Unless it is a seeing eye dog)

The course starts slightly downhill from the south edge of the park. The runners then make one nearly complete circuit of the field, ducking though some trees at the end of the lap into a separate field for about a half mile. Then it's back to the main field for another lap and half to the finish.
