Most major-label bands spend several months writing and perfecting new songs.  For senior Scott Blair it only took 45 minutes.

“It was just something I was doing for fun, but when I had about five songs done I decided ‘hey, why not?’” Blair said.

Blair released his first ever self-written, self-recorded, and self-produced techno CD last week under his alter ego “DJ Slair.”

The CD features nine original tracks and is titled “Scotty Darko,” which was strongly inspired by the 2001 film “Donnie Darko.”

Blair credits senior Kevin Forde as a source of inspiration.

“I was turned on to techno sophomore year when I started listening to his [Forde’s] techno collection,” Blair said.

Forde enjoys the new DJ Slair product thoroughly.

“It’s like a sweet rave party in your head,” said Forde.

DJ Slair also finds inspiration from bands like The Crystal Method, Tune Up!, DJ Tiesto, DHT, and DJ Dean as well as many other techno artists.

Blair plans on continuing his techno production, but as nothing more than a hobby. He hopes to be a club DJ someday in his free time.

“Everyone needs a little more techno,” he said.
