On Wed. April 30, environmental science teacher Don Petty took his 5th and 7th hour classes to Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. Petty has been doing this trip for the past five years.

The student’s departed from U-High at 6:30 a.m. and arrived at Shedd promptly at 8:45 a.m. Thirty-three kids got the opportunity to experience the aquatic wonders of the world in a place that was just within a short drive.

“Going to Shedd was an experience of a lifetime,” senior Chelsea Harris said.

The trip entailed getting to watch a dolphin show and the tricks they learned in their time there, and also visiting the baby Beluga whale and kimono dragon that were on display.

With multiple tanks of different types of fish and aquatic life, it was easy for the group to get overwhelmed.

Shedd is divided into many different sections depending on where they found the fish and what their contribution to the habitat was.

After a long day of adventure throughout the Shedd, the exhausted students returned home to Bloomington-Normal.
