Student Assistance Program

Mission Statement

The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is based on the philosophy that the student success is possible only in the presence of the positive self-esteem.

There are five basic components of self-esteem necessary in the individual and his/her environment.

  • A sense of security

  • A sense of identity

  • A sense of belonging

  • A sense of purpose

  • A sense of personal competence

Students struggling with one or more of the above components usually exhibit specific, observable and descriptive behaviors that identify basic needs.  This program allows the school to respond swiftly and effectively to the student's needs.

Student Assistance is designed to individualize the education process to meet the needs of each student.  A team of counselors, teachers, administrators, and health professionals meet to discuss students' needs after reviewing the referrals.  A checklist is used as a screening device to identify students' needs in the areas of academics, health, behavior, or attendance. Recommendations from the team are then discussed with the student to begin the implementation of an action plan.

About the Program

The Student Assistance Program is designed to assist students in developing the life skills necessary for them to be successful in relating people, places, or things in their own environment.

The SAP is a positive, pro-active program which effectively assists the students when difficulty is shown in one of the following areas: academics, behavior, health, or attendance.

There are informal methods which teachers are encouraged to use before SAP is activated.
