Uther Pendragon

Long ago in Medieval England, two very powerful men were at odds with each other. One of them, Uther Pendragon, was the king of all England. His adversary, the Duke of Tintagil, resided in Cornwall. After many years of war, Uther decided enough was enough. He sent for the duke and the duke’s wife, Igraine, to come to his castle to make peace with them once and for all. It just so happened that Uther fell into lust with Igraine when she arrived at his castle. However, Igraine was a woman of morals and did not approve of this at all. She told her husband of this at once, and the two of them immediately left the castle without Uther or anyone else knowing.

Uther became enraged when he realized what had happened. He called his private council to inform them, and they advised that he send a message to tell the duke and his wife to return. If they did not comply, Uther would wage war against the duke. When the messenger returned and gave word that neither he nor his wife would return, Uther declared war on the duke. Uther sent word to the duke that he would lay siege on him in 40 days.

Meanwhile, the duke fortified two of his castles. The duke went to his castle in Terrabil, while Igraine remained in the castle in Tintagil. Uther attacked the castle of Terrabil first with a great force of men. There was a great war, and many men were slain. Soon after, Uther became sick because of his anger and love for Igraine. One of his knights, Sir Ulfius, approached him and asked him why he was so ill. When Uther told him of his problem, Ulfius told Uther that he would seek the wizard Merlin, so they could find a cure for his depression. When Ulfius found Merlin and told him of Uther's dilemma, Merlin agreed to help the king if he was rewarded. Ulfius rode back to Uther’s castle, and Merlin departed for the castle soon after.
