King Arthur and the two
kings Ban and
Bors go oversea and sent out seven hundred knights in two groups.
On the other side there still three hundred knights from the kingdoms of
Benwick and of Gaul. So both the English and the French Knights readied for
battle and armored up. The first to fight was
Griflet and he met with the knight named Laninas. Both sides are
looking to see which side will take control first. But the two knights
fought, until their shields fell to pieces and both men fell off their horse
to the ground and could fight no more. They lain there so long that all the
other men thought they both were dead. After all this happened Lucas the
butler helps Griflet got back up on his horse and they fought together with
their men. Then
Sir Kay comes out to fight with five other men so the six of them
did a good thing to help the rest of their knights. Sir Kay did the best
that day out of all the men. Then came the two French knights, Landinas and
Gracians, and they did so well that all the men praised them that day.
Then came a good knight, Sir Placidas
, to fight Sir Kay. As he hit Sir Kay, he knocked him off his horse. Sir
Griflet was mad and hit Sir Placidas so hard that he and his horse fell to
the ground. When five of Sir Kay’s knights heard about him being knocked
down they came to the rescue. When Kings Arthur, Ban and Bors heard about
this, their ponies to go and break the battle up. After the battle was
broken up all the night went home to pray and have supper, then, the three
kings went into the garden to give Sir Kay,
Lucas the butler, and Sir Griflet their prizes for winning the
battle. Then the small group went into council, and after they went to bed.
After the knights woke up and
had their morning meal and prayed them all got jobs assigned to them. So
they said that Merlin should go with a token from King Ban which was a
ring,. They send Gracian and Placidas back to their counties to protect
their castles again in the name of their dread king, King
Claudas. So once they all got there the people were glad to see
them. They started to get their army ready. Merlin
had fifteen thousand men on horse and foot, while
Gracian and
Placidas were left to furnish and garnish the castles for King
Claudas. After Merlin passes the sea, well victualled by water and
land, when he got to the sea he sent home the footmen, and only took no more
than ten thousand men on horseback. So the men on horseback passed the sea
going into England, and the land of Dover, trying to get to the forest of
Bedegraine. Once they got there they founded a valley were the hide secretly
in.
When King Arthur and the other
two kings got there Merlin showed up and they were wondering how he got
there so fast because it took them a day and a night. Merlin told them about
10,000 men waiting in Bedegraine, and how they were armed. So the kings went
back and got 20,000 men and armed them up, so that no man or enemy could get
pass the trend water unless they had a token from King Arthur.
