After King Ban and King Bors left, King Arthur rode his horse to
Carlion. There he saw
King Lot's wife with her four sons.
Arthur liked her because she was a fair lady. Before king Arthur and
king lots wife went to bed her and king Arthur conceived a child without
king Arthur knowing that she was his sister. That night King Arthur went
to bed and started dreaming. He dreamed of
griffins and serpents
and how he killed all the people in the land, but while fighting they
still wounded him. When he woke up he wanted to get the dream out of his
head so he wanted to go hunting with some of his other Knights. When he
went out hunting, he saw a beast so terrible that his horse lost his
breath and dropped dead. Quickly the
yeoman fetched the king
another horse.
Then while Arthur was looking and thinking about the beast and his
horse, he heard about thirty hounds in the distance. While hearing the
hounds, the king saw the beast going up to take a drink. The king had
never seen anything like it. After the beast was done drinking, he let
out a horrible sound and left the drinking hole.
After the beast left the king was thinking about what he just saw and
fell asleep. While he was sleeping a knight came and woke him and asked
if he had seen a strange beast walk by. The king said he had seen such a
beast and that it killed his horse. Then the knight asked the king for
his horse and says that he has been following the beast for
twelvemonth and either he will kill the beast or he will die trying.
Then Pelinore followed the beast after the death of sir Palamides.
