Griflet
asks King Arthur to make him a knight. “THOU
art full young and
tender of age”, said Arthur,
King Arthur then makes Griflet a knight. Merlin helps Arthur
make his decision by saying “it
were great pity to lose Griflet, for he will be a passing good
man when he is of age,
abiding
with you the term of his life”. After he does Merlin
tells how he will wander and meet up against the best knight in
the world near a fountain. The knight at the fountain is the
knight now, he must give a gift. Griflet promises that when he
fights the knight on either foot or horseback that he will come
back to King Arthur. Griflet then rode to the fountain and
awoke the knight by hitting on his shield. The knight questions
Griflet saying “That
is me
loath,
said the knight, but I will need reasons for this”.
Griflet
decides to challenge the knight to joust, the knight warns him.
Griflet gets stabbed, by the knight.
