Then, just as it was predicted,
Sir Bors de
Ganis, relative to Lancelot, came to visit the king in Corbin. In order
to get over the bridge, he had to joust one of Arthur’s knights, Sir Bromel.
Sir Bors hit him so hard that he knocked him off of the horse. Then Sir
Bromel pulled out his sword ready to fight. Sir Bors came down from his
horse also. They fought harshly until Sir Bromel lay on the ground. He
begged for Bors’ mercy as he was about to slay him. Sir Bors spared his life
as long as he went to Lancelot and told him that he was a cowardly knight.
Sir Bromel swore agreement and then let Sir Bors pass so that he could visit
King Pelles in Corbin.
When Bors came to the king’s castle with
Elaine,
the people all cheered because they were related to Lancelot. Elaine was sad
because Lancelot had been imprisoned and had never seen their little boy
Galahad. Then Bors had a vision of a white dove carrying
The
Holy Grail in its beak while they were feasting. The dove said to Sir
Bors that Galahad, the child of Elaine, will achieve the grail and be a
better knight that his father
Lancelot.
After that, the dove vanished with the grail.
The next day Sir Bors and King Pelles had a talk.
Pelles was talking about how many adventures he had inside of this castle.
He complained that few knights had left this castle and they had not been
praised after all of their adventures. Even when they died, their legacy
lived on just like the late sir
Gawaine’s.
(You were only praised for your good works if God was on your side.) In
order to have God on your side, you had to go to confession. Bors started
talking about how he wanted to be a better person with God on his side. The
king said he would teach him. Bors confessed that he only had sex once and
that brought about his daughter Elaine. He was saving himself for a clean
woman.
After they talked, Sir Bors retired to his chambers. He
locked all of the doors and tried to avoid all the people. While he was
sleeping, a knight stabbed him in the shoulder and told him to get up and
fight. Bors got his shield and they fought for a while. After they got
tired, the knight left the chamber so he could rest. The next day they came
back to fight again, refreshed.
