Book 12:

The Chevalier Mal Fet

Chapter Four

How Sir Launcelot was known by Dame Elaine, and was borne into a chamber and after healed by the Sangreal.

Launcelot, shown above, is cured of insanity while at the Castle of King Pelles.

After escaping from the top of the tower where he was being held, Launcelot escaped to Corbin, the town where Dame Elaine lived. King Pelles gave him clothes, a bed, and a house. Every day they also provided him with food.

One day, the nephew of King Pelles wanted to be made into a knight. His uncle obliged, knighting Castor at the feast of Candlemas. He was given many gowns after he was knighted, and gave Launcelot a scarlet gown because of the relationship they had built while Launcelot was in their care.

Launcelot decided to take a walk in the garden. Tired, he decided to lay by the well and sleep. At about noon, Dame Elaine and her friends came into the garden, where Dame Elaine spotted Launcelot sleeping by the well. (Dame Elaine is the lady that caused Launcelot to go insane by raping him twice.) She went to where he was sleeping and started to remember the love she had for him. She began to weep, and fell to the ground in tears.

After getting up, she goes to her dad and says that she had seen Launcelot sleeping by the well. Dame Elaine explains to her dad that Launcelot is insane, so they go to the well where Dame Brisen is, and they try to cure him. Brisen put an enchantment on him so he would not awake within an hour.(Dame Brisen is the same lady that made Dame Elaine look like Guenevere so Launcelot would sleep with her.)

Pelles, Elaine, and Brisen moved Launcelot to the tower and by force, laid him by the holy vessel of the Sangreal. A holy man came and cured Launcelot of his insanity and by the time he woke, Launcelot was complaining of being tired and sore.
