After Launcelot came upon a cross in the forest he put his new horse to pasture, took off his armor and helmet, and prayed to God asking him to forgive his earthly sins. After his prayers he fell asleep. During his sleep he began to have a dream about the Sangreal in the hands of a king (with a golden crown) accompanied by seven other kings and two knights. The only words these men spoke were “Fair sweet Father of heaven come and visit us, and yield unto us everych as we have deserved.” Then the clouds parted and an old man approached Launcelot accompanied by angels and said “I have lost all that I have set in thee, for thou hast ruled thee against me as a warrior, and used wrong wars with vain-glory, more for the pleasure of the world than to please me, therefore thou shalt be confounded without thou yield me my treasure. This is because Launcelot had committed earthly sins and was unholy of possession of the Sangreal.

Launcelot then woke up and rode off on his horse until mid-day. During his ride he came upon the same thief that took his helm, shield, and original horse. He knocked the thief out and retrieved his possessions. Launcelot then mounted upon his own horse and tied the thieves horse onto a tree so if he arisen then he could find it. Lancelot road until night fall where he met a hermit which is the place he stayed that night. While in the hermit’s home he asked him about the vision that he had the night before.
