After his talk with the Abbot, Sir Bors left and continued on his quest for the Sangreal. The next day, Sir Bors came upon his brother, Sir Lionel, when he entered a hermitage. Sir Lionel was sitting in full armor in front of the chapel door. When Sir Bors saw him, he was overwhelmed with excitement. However, his brother did not feel that way and with a good reason. Previously, Sir Bors had left his brother, who was being thorn lashed naked, in order to save a maiden. When Bors went back to save his brother, he thought Lionel had died. And because of this, Sir Lionel said that his committed the greatest untruth to him and for that, Lionel wants him to die. Sir Bors quickly understood his brother’s anger and knelt down to pray for his brother’s forgiveness. Sir Lionel would not forgive his older brother for his evil doing. Instead, Sir Lionel mounted his horse and came forth to speak to his treacherous brother. Lionel says that he will kill Sir Bors, the most untrue knight from their family. He says Bors should die like any felon or traitor. Sir Lionel then tells his sorrowful brother to get on his horse so it will be fair fight. If Bors chooses to say on foot, then the harm will be done on him. Sir Bors saw that his only decision was to either fight with his brother or die, but he knew what to do. Bors knelt down before Sir Lionel’s horse’s feet and asked his brother not to slay him. The words that Bors spoke did not affect his brother at all; Sir Lionel was still determined to slay his brother. When Sir Lionel decided that his brother would not fight him, he went to strike Sir Bors with his horse. Sir Bors was hurt sore and was going to die without confession. Then, Sir Lionel got off his horse and grabbed his brother by his helm to smite his head off, but the hermit came running to Bors and protected him.
