Two knights met in the
middle of the night in a valley. One of the knights represented
Camelot, while the other knight
represented the
North Kingdom. The
knight from Camelot spoke of the fellowship that existed among
King Arthur’s court. While the
Knight from the North told of a plot to kill King Arthur with the greatest
poison. The knight from Camelot warned the knight from the North of a
magician known by the name of Merlin because he knows the devils craft. The
knight from Camelot was not going to let the other knight get away with
killing King Arthur so they parted their separate ways.
As the knights
were on their journey back home
King
Pellinore and his lady were getting ready to ride to Camelot. As the
King and his lady were riding by a well they found a wounded knight and a
lady. The lady looked as if she had been eaten by lions or other wild beats
for all they left of her was her head. The King was very sad for the loss
of this lady and was asking himself why could not have saved her. For this
lady was fair and young as was the knight. His lady then asked her king to
take her advice and let the knight be buried in a
hermitage, and then take the lady’s
head straight to King Arthur. So then King Pellinore took the dead knight
on his shoulder and brought him to the hermitage and charged the
hermit with the corpse and to give
him a proper burial. The king told the hermit that this service should be
done for his soul. The hermit told the king that, “it shall be done, as I
will answer unto God.”
