After being captured the night before Sir Accolon and Sir Arthur were not separated. They had been tricked by beautiful damsels on a ship to rest and eat with them. When they woke up Arthur found himself in a cell with 20 other knights that had been captured and Accolon woke up to find himself alone and separate from Arthur. Sir Damas had captured all these knights in order to get them to fight Sir Ontzlake for him. Sir Ontzlake was Sir Damas’ brother and he wanted to dethrone Sir Ontzlake to get the thrown to himself. Sir Arthur agreed to fight for him as long as he promised to let the other knights go.

Sir Accolon was asked to fight a knight of Sir Damas’ for Sir Ontzlake. Morgan Le Fay had asked him to through messenger. She had also sent Excalibur and his scabbard which she had stolen from Arthur. Sir Accolon thought he was fighting an evil knight and Arthur had allowed him to use his sword.

Sir Ontzlake and Sir Damas set up a time for the knights to fight in a field.  So both Sir Accolon and King Arthur rode out to meet in battle. King Arthur went into battle thinking that he had his Excalibur and scabbard. Little did he know that they were both fake, courtesy of Morgan Le Fay. It was all her idea for this entire mishap and turned out to be a failed attempt to get Accolon to kill King Arthur.
