Sir Lancelot was riding through a thick forest
when he came to an opening in the trees. There, on the edge of the forest
stood four of King Arthur’s knights:
Sir Sagramour le Desirous, and
Ector de Maris, and
Sir Gawaine, and
Sir Uwaine. When
the knights recognized Sir Lancelot, they stared at him with evil glares.
Then, noticing that Sir Lancelot had
Sir Kay’s armor and horse, Sir Sagramour said “ I will avenge my fallen brother” and so Sagramour picked up
his own spear and galloped towards Lancelot. Lancelot, knowing Sagramour
well in battle, picked up his spear and rode towards Sagramour. When the
two knights met, Lancelot struck Sagramour with all his might sending him
and his horse to the ground. Sagramour, defeated, said “you are a much
better knight than Sir Kay, and I couldn’t defeat you”.
Next Sir Ector grabbed his spear and
charged at Lancelot. Again, Lancelot rode into battle and sent Ector and
horse to the ground in defeat.
Then Sir Uwaine began to talk to
Lancelot. “I know you have killed Sir Kay, and I have seen you defeat two
of my friends. Indeed you are a strong Knight.” Hesitant at first, Sir
Uwaine grabbed his spear and rode toward Lancelot. For a third time
Lancelot rode into battle, and was victorious, hitting Uwaine so hard that
he was knocked senseless.
At last it was Sir Gawaine’s turn, and he
shouted “I will beat you Lancelot” as he grabbed the best spear he could
find and with all of his power rode toward Lancelot. Lancelot, for the
final time rode into battle. In this battle he did not send Gawaine off of
his horse. Instead, Lancelot hit him so hard his horse fell backwards and
the only thing Sir Gawaine could do was jump off of his horse so he would
not be crushed by it. Then once Gawaine was on the ground, Lancelot trotted
by with a smirk on his face and said, “Sir Kay’s spear did well for him, but
I am the greatest that has ever used it.” Then, ashamed and defeated, the
four Knights of the Round Table comforted each other, and were
disgusted by the fact that they had all fallen to one spear by one man.
Then they acknowledged Sir Lancelot’s greatness, got on their horses and
rode away.
