Summary Sir Tristan
was about to leave
Ireland . He went to talk
to King
Anguish about his reasons for leaving. Tristan's father was
Sir Meliodas, King of Liones, and his
mother was
the sister of King Mark of Cornwall. His mother died giving birth to him in
Cornwall. He fought for the love of his uncle,
King Mark, and for Cornwall.
He became a knight in Cornwall when he fought
Sir Marhaus. Tristan leaves to
the King's company to say goodbye to
Isould. He
tells her how a lady told him that he would never be whole until he returned
to the country where the potion that made them fall in love was made. Isould
is very upset that Tristan is leaving but Tristan reassures her that he will
faithfully be her knight until he dies. She promises him that she will only
marry someone if he gives her his consent, and she will only marry someone if he
approves of him. They exchanged rings to remember each other by, and Tristan
left her alone in her sorrow.
Next, Tristan goes to the court where all
the barons are to say goodbye to him. He tells them all that if he has ever
offended any of them, they should let him know so he can make amends before
he leaves. He also asked someone to let him know of bad things that have been
said behind his back.
No one responded and everyone stayed still. No one said a word, yet there were some knights in the court who did have things to
say to him. They just didn’t have the guts to say anything publicly.
Nothing got settled as Tristan had hoped, but he brushed it off and left for
Cornwall to begin a new journey.
