The Greeks: Crucible of Civilization
This site presents an introduction to ancient Greek history, culture, politics, art, and warfare. There is a detailed timeline covering 1200 B.C. to 337 B.C. The Greeks Interactive contains an interactive map, information about life in Athens, and ancient Greek language lessons. The Acropolis Experience includes a film clip about the Parthenon. Use the site index for easier navigation. Educational resources are also included.
 

The Parthian Empire

A searchable history of this ancient Persian empire. Its boundaries covered all of contemporary Iran and portions of Iraq, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Information is provided about their calendar and rulers, with a timeline of ancient world events. Also included is information about geography (many maps), art and culture, numismatics (many photos, including coins issued by Rome about Parthia).

Searchable; or browse by county in Wales or by subjects such as agriculture, industry, arts, religion, politics, education, transportation, domestic life, and war.

ThamesPilot
"Collection of images and documents that chart the rich history of the River Thames, from source to sea." Features themed collections, such as riverside pubs, the river in art, working along the river, and "a trip down the Thames in words and pictures". Also includes a timeline gallery (1000 to the 21st century) and links to places to visit.

Medici Archive
Established by Grand Duke Cosimo I in 1569, the archive consists of nearly 3 million letters that offer a "panorama of two-hundred years of human history, as told in the words of the people most immediately involved." This developing, searchable project contains Arts & Humanities, including antiquities, art, books, coins, drawings, maps, medicine, music, theater, and more; Jewish History (religion and culture); and the history of Costume and Textiles. Documents in Italian, with English translations.

Learning about the Holocaust through Art
A "resource about the art of the Holocaust for researchers, educators, students and the wider public." Explore , containing the art works, is the heart of the site. It is browsable by artist and location and searchable by keyword, title, artist, or place. There are brief biographies of the artists and histories of the camps and ghettos. Learn provides a teacher's guide, student activities, and resources.

 

Government Views of D-Day 1944
This bibliography features annotated links to Web pages about the D-Day invasion of World War II on June 6, 1944. Subjects include air operations, art and D-Day, the German view, naval operations, photographs, personal histories, and even the message drafted by General Eisenhower in case the D-Day invasion failed.
