Hands-on, field (i.e. outdoors) and
laboratory-based biological and ecological investigations of plant
and animal communities and their associated physical/environmental
characteristics; in local forest, grassland, freshwater, and other
natural environments, and in some human-influenced or
"urban" settings. Includes some indoor classroom, and
laboratory work. Culminates in an all-day "applied
biology" canoeing trip on the Mackinaw River. Fulfills
requirements for one semester of introductory biology or for
students who want a one-semester science elective. Designed to
complement the "Field Ecology" summer school course,
which is offered in alternating years.
Note #1: Additional fees for
transportation and canoe rental will be charged; but no textbook
purchases are required.
Note #2: Class meets for a four-hour
field trip each Wednesday. No classes on Friday. (Fr. – Sr.)
