Pool Accessories
There are virtually an infinite number of different pool supplies that are available for purchase. As technology continues to improve, there will no doubt continue to be newer and better products to buy in the future, just as there will be in any other market. Some examples of pool accessories currently available to the consumer are shown below.
Filters:
There are a variety of filters on the market today and you can pay just about whatever you want for one. Most commonly used filters cost around $300-400. For an in ground pool, the oldest and most preferred use of filtration is sand. A small canister (about 24 inches in diameter) is filled part way with sand. The water then runs through the sand and the sand collects anything that is not water. The system can be cleaned by simply reversing the flow or "backwashing".
The device at right is the Hayward Pro Series S-240 Side Mounted Sand
Filter. This model is corrosive proof and is the most "owner
friendly" model available. This particular model costs about $500,
but Hayward also makes other high performance models for less money as well.
Hayward also makes a number of cartridge filters. These
filters cost much less than the sand filters (around $150) and are very easy to
maintain. The cartridge at the top of the device filters out large
particles and then smaller ones as the larger ones get clogged. The
cartridge can then be removed and cleaned with the average garden hose.
Pumps:
Along with a good filter, a good pump will be necessary in order to help
maintain the pool and keep the water fresh. Most pumps are relatively
small and lightweight, much like the filters are. Depending on the quality
of the water in the pool, the pump may run all day long or not very much at
all. Most pumps cost around the same amount as their filter counterparts
($300-400). However, proper shopping and research techniques will ensure
that you get the best pump at a low price.
The pump shown here is an Aqua Flo A-Series pump. It is made from molded
old-world bronze in order to make it corrosion free. The cost of this
model will depend on it's size, which will, in turn, depend on the size of the
pool and the amount of water that it contains. This pump, however, is very
long lasting and is a very high performance device.
Heaters:
If you want to keep your pool warm on those
chilly days when it is still too nice not to swim, a heater may be the best
option. The pool heater shown at right is the Raypak RP2100 Digital
Heater. This heater represents the latest technology available to the
consumer right now and is corrosion free. The temperature is controlled
digitally and contains two different LCD screens: one for the owner and one for
the technician. This model costs around $1,200, but other models can sell
for under $1000 or even over $2000, depending on the size of the pool and the
budget of the owner.
