The following is a list of deciduous trees that are able to be grown in USDA Hardiness Zone 5 (McLean County is located in Hardiness Zone 5a). This list is by no means comprehensive of all the trees capable of growing in Zone 5, but it does strive to provide a general overview of the various types of trees that can prosper in this zone. Red Maple (Acer rubrum) - The red maple comes in several varieties that vary mainly in height and necessary growing conditions. Every red maple features the characteristic red leaves in the fall.

River Birch (Betula nigra) - This tree has a creamy whit bark that begins to peel within the first few years. This provides for a beautiful look. The tree also provides a light shade and some privacy.
