Recycling
( Intro. to Eng. Tech)
Students pour molten aluminum
into an ingot mold. The
aluminum - 20 pounds - was
recycled from 640 soda cans
collected from the school
lounge. |

Architectural
Modeling
(Indep. Study)
This picture is
taken from a movie showing an
exterior and interior tour of a
large house. The house was
designed in AutoCAD to meet
architectural standards, then
modeled and animated in 3D
Studio Max. The house is
currently under construction
west of Bloomington.

Wind tunnel
Testing
(Intro to Eng. Tech.)
A student is
preparing to test a prototype
airfoil in the wind tunnel.
Students designed and built
their own airfoils, then tested
the lift and drag
characteristics of each airfoil.
Some of the designs rivaled
commercial wing designs in
overall lift/drag ratio.

U-High Lounge
Tour
(collaboration)
A picture from a
movie showing an animated tour
of U-High's student lounge.
The basic floor plan was taken
from ISU's master floor plans.
Students modeled furniture in
AutoCAD. The rendering and
animation was done in 3D Studio
Max.

Solar Car
Chassis
(Indep. Study)
A student welds
the frame for a solar electric
car under construction in the
tech lab. The car is being
designed and built entirely
by students. By May 2003, the
initial design and frame had
been completed. Work on
the suspension will begin in the
fall. |

CO2 Cars
(Principles of Tech.)
Another student
compares his model to the design
dimensions he drew on
paper. It can be a real
challenge to complete a working
car, on time, and within the
tight size and weight
constraints of the project. |

Biodiesel
(Intro to Eng. Tech.)
This is a flask
of biodiesel - diesel fuel made
from vegetable oil. A
student team made this batch of
biodiesel from soybean oil as
part of a project on alternative
energy. |

3D Animation
(3D Graphics)
This is a frame
from a 30-second
computer-animated film produced
as a final project for the 3D
Graphics course. Students
learn the applications of
animation for both engineering
and media applications. |
