It's the Law

Computer software is protected by Federal and International copyright laws.  Read Illinois State University's Site Licensing Policies for a short description of some of the legal considerations governing software sales via Illinois State's Site Licensed Software department. For a basic introduction to copyright laws, extensive official information regarding U.S.copyright laws, or an overview of some common myths about copyright protection, click those links. For efforts of the software industry to combat piracy, take these links to the Software and Information Industry Association and the Business Software Alliance.

Much of the above, plus a great deal more, may be found at the ISU computer security web page. Please take special note of the university's Information Resources Policies, Procedures, and Guidelines.
